                                       I. Qatar National Day History & National Symbolism Qatar National Day (Al-Yawm al-Watani al-Qatari) is observed on December 18 each year and stands as the country’s most significant national celebration. Its significance traces back to 1878, when Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani assumed leadership and successfully unified the tribes across the Qatari Peninsula. Known as the founder of Qatar, he laid the groundwork for the modern political system by defending the region from external forces and strengthening tribal unity. Because of this, December 18 is also widely recognized as Founder’s Day. The celebration was not always held in December.

Historical Context of UAE National Day and Its National Symbolism The United Arab Emirates was founded on December 2, 1971, when the seven emirates were unified under the leadership of the founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. To commemorate this milestone, UAE National Day—also known as Eid Al Etihad (Union Day)—has become one of the most significant national celebrations across the country. In 1932, King Abdulaziz bin Saud issued a royal decree renaming the Kingdom of Najd and Hejaz as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (المملكة العربية السعودية), marking the unification and birth of modern Saudi Arabia. The holiday was not initially fixed as National Day. In 1965, King Faisal bin Abdulaziz designated September 23 as Saudi National Day (اليوم الوطني السعودي), replacing the former “Royal Accession Day (يوم الجلوس الملكي). However, the commemoration year was marked as 1930
